Our Story
VOWS Foundation was born from both love and loss, inspired by the memory of Sergeant Omontre, Anya’s late husband, who tragically lost his life to suicide. Omontre was a dedicated soldier who faced countless internal battles alone, struggling with the unseen scars of mental health challenges. Despite his strength, he bore his pain silently, and the weight of those battles eventually became too heavy to carry alone.
Anya was heartbroken by his passing, left to navigate the deep ache of grief and countless unanswered questions. Determined to honor Omontre’s memory and to prevent others from facing similar struggles in isolation, Anya created VOWS Foundation. She wanted to build a compassionate community for those in need, especially for under-resourced Black and Brown communities, where access to mental health support is often limited.
Through VOWS, Anya has dedicated herself to breaking down barriers around mental health. VOWS Foundation is more than just a nonprofit; it is a powerful promise to carry forward Omontre’s legacy by being valiant, optimistic, willing, and soulful.
